My Hiatus and the Future of All-Around Adventure

First and foremost I’d like to apologize for the little hiatus I’ve been on lately. I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted any new content. For the past few weeks I’ve been thinking carefully on what it is I hope to achieve with this blog. As well as the goals that I can set for it. This is what I’ve come up with so far.

One of my goals is to turn my blog into a business someday. In order to work towards this goal, I’ve been pulling from a variety of resources to become more knowledgeable. One of them being an online course that I’ve enrolled in where I learn from some of the best in the business. I’ve also been gathering books, websites, and podcasts that cover a wide array of topics; such as writing, web design, personal development, social media, entrepreneurship, and so on. Therefore, a lot of time has been spent looking at the many aspects involved in blogging and growing a business and how I can apply them to my own blog.

I’ve also had to establish my niche. Or what I can consider myself to be an expert in. This was actually quite difficult for me, as I’m such a versatile traveler (hence the name All-Around Adventure). You can find me in the souks in Dubai haggling with merchants over goods. Then just days later you can find me in Scotland hiking to the summit of Ben Nevis. I find the world amazing as a whole, and I want to experience as much of it as possible. So I’ve been reluctant to just focus on a single aspect of travel that I can become an expert in. However, after some thought, I’d likely say that adventure travel would be what I’m best at, and what I’m most passionate about.

Some of my most fondest memories come from times when I’ve escaped into nature for days at a time. Times when I’ve wandered off the beaten path and discovered things that I didn’t know were there. The times when I’ve challenged myself and accomplished great feats. Like cycling 300 miles across The Gambia or camping in the Black Hills in the middle of winter. Or the times when I’ve done extreme, adrenaline-fueled activities; such as bungee jumping and skydiving. During these moments I learn a lot about myself and what I’m capable of. I want to teach and encourage others to do the same in hopes that they too may benefit the way I have.

So far my blog has been more of a collection of stories from my travels so far and my times as an expatriate. However, to make my blog more business oriented, I will need to focus on creating content that is considered to be more informative. Therefore, I may not publish personal stories as often as I have been. Now for those of you who have enjoyed my stories so far, fear not, for I will still continue to do them. Though for the moment it’s hard to say how consistent I’ll be with them.

I’m sure with some work I’ll be able to find a balance with producing content that is both informative and entertaining. I still want to include my personal stories because I do have an audience that enjoys them. Also one of goals, perhaps the greatest one, for starting this blog is to add value to the world. I want people to visit to my blog and take away something valuable. Whether that comes in the form of a helpful tip, a good laugh, or inspiration to do something amazing, it all goes towards that goal.

In order to achieve this there are a few things that have been made abundantly clear. This will take a lot of work and a lot of time. I could potentially be working on this blog for years before it can become a sustainable business. I know it’s going to be a tough road. I’m going to have failures. I’m going to have people who don’t like me. I going to run into moments where I’m going to want to quit. But I’m not going to, because I know that hard work, discipline, and consistency is what it takes to be successful. Nothing worth having comes easy.

This has been a quick summary of the little hiatus I’ve been on. I look forward to continue working on this blog and seeing what I can make out of it. Now I’d like to hear from all of you. With my niche now established as adventure travel, what would you like to see next. Hiking? Scuba Diving? Skydiving? Wandering off the beaten path? Leave a comment below and I’ll see what I can come up with! Thank you for visiting and supporting my blog! Have a great day!
