Spooky Nights in York, England

For the past year I’ve been living in York, England. During the day you can see crowds of people out and about taking in the beauty of the city. At night, on the other hand, the city is empty and quiet, which can make it rather spooky. There have been a couple of times when I’ve walked through the city late at night. While doing so I felt like I was walking through the setting of a classic horror film.

York is often referred to as one of the most haunted cities in Europe. Therefore, there are several different ghost tours that allow people to visit supposed haunted sights while hearing the tales that come with them. These tours operate nightly, and usually draw large crowds. So it’s very clear to see just how many people take interest in things such as the paranormal. Recent surveys conducted here in the UK have even shown that there are more people who believe in ghosts, than God.

The paranormal is something that interests me as well. After I learned about York’s reputation for being haunted, I knew I had to take part in some of the ghost tours. After taking a tour I always like walking past the locations from the tour and recalling their stories. These places can certainly add spookiness to the city at night. However, I think there are more prominent factors that make York as spooky as it is.

York Minster

After my recent trip to Israel, I arrived back in York during the early hours of the morning. While walking through the city I noticed that I was literally the only one out and about. There was not a single other soul to be found anywhere. Also the old buildings combined with dimly lit street lights reminded me of a setting from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. These factors certainly gave the city a spooky vibe.

Clifford's Tower

During my walk through York I passed some of the supposed haunted places from the tours. While doing so a part of me was really hoping that I would get to see a ghost. I find ghosts to be very interesting, but I still haven’t seen any proof that they actually exist. So it would take actually seeing one for me to become a true believer. Maybe if I venture out into York at night again I just may!

I hope you enjoyed this post! I will be covering specific haunted locations from the tours in later posts, so stay tuned. Also don’t forget to share! What are some spooky places that you’ve visited? Any ghost sightings? Leave a comment below and tell about them. Thank you for visiting my blog, have a great day!
